Background of Introduction of Group ESG Brand "RE:GEN"

Hyosung Group does its best not only to practice ESG throughout the group's management but also to establish "ESG" values at the center of innovation at each business company of the group. After years of building our substantiality based on technology and business, we declared our ESG brand, "RE:GEN: Credo to Every Generation" in 2023 to promote engagement and dispersion of ESG among the Group's employees, partners, and customers.

At Hyosung, we believe that if ESG is merely good intentions or extra commercial operations, it will fail to achieve the more sustainable and safe world and society that all generations dream of. Therefore, it should be a sincere effort based on the business and technological reality of Hyosung so that ESG can be placed at the core of the business and that it can be spread as the value of all people who sympathize with Hyosung, not just the value of Hyosung members. In addition, we believe that Hyosung's technological DNA, which has been inherited since the time of its founding, can contribute to making the desires of all generations come true.

Already equipped with a lot of ESG assets in-house, Hyosung avoids common errors that can lead to fragmented corporate image improvement, systematizes our assets, and cultivates external sympathy, all while striving to build an industrial ecosystem that is built on a virtuous cycle that puts ESG at the core.

Birth of RE:GEN

In the present day, many businesses are aware of the importance of ESG and accordingly practice its implementation. However, the process of converting such desires to the core of a business is quite challenging. Anyone can make simple efforts, declarations, and formal acts that are almost close to “greenwashing,” but putting ESG at the heart of the business requires more sophisticated technology and complex decision-making, such as more expensive or tricky processes, and additional design. ESG emanates from the awareness that “better deeds,” “better value incorporation,” and “acquisition of a more praised reputation” are not enough to prepare for the future our age and the coming generations will face, which is why Hyosung intends to put ESG at the heart of its business.

Therefore, Hyosung defines ESG as technology, efforts, and the dissemination of synergy focused on their “purposes.” Our ESG aims to organically merge technologies and efforts. Many businesses abroad highlight “corporate brand purpose” as the most essential factor in developing social relations, as “sincerity based on substantiality” is more important than “declaration” per se.

Hyosung also hopes to promote Hyosung's ESG as a “reply to every generation” and to bring all internal and external stakeholders’ beliefs and motivations together centering around better values.

The design was focused on the symbol for “actions with good intentions” that everyone can take part in by clearly delivering the value of a circular ecosystem through approachable design and technology that cover every generation.

    • RE:GEN RECYCLE

      Plastic threatens not only animals on land but also the marine ecosystem. Hyosung and affiliates are striving to achieve zero waste by building a circular economy that recycles plastic waste disposed of on land and sea.

    • RE:GEN UPCYCLE

      Another pillar that makes up Hyosung's circular economy and adds new functions and values to recycling plastic waste; upcycling is our effort to meet the industrial demand of various sectors. General recycling will limit the demand inevitably, but adding new functions can extend the new life cycle of plastics.

    • RE:GEN ZERO

      All affiliates of Hyosung minimize carbon emissions generated from the production process and manufactured products and inhibit carbon that can generate in the business activities as much as possible. Ultimately, all affiliates adopt the technology agenda aiming for net zero.

    • RE:GEN NEW ENERGY

      Civilization will cease to exist if there is no energy source for the economic activities of humanity. Therefore, Hyosung endeavors to develop a value chain encompassing materials, parts, operational techniques, and the overall distribution system in order to boost the utilization and efficiency of hydrogen and renewable energy over fossil fuels.

RE:GEN ALLIANCE

RE:GEN ALLIANCE is not just a brand of Hyosung, but it is a program that is planned and implemented with many competent external participants to expand the scope of ESG participation, contributing not only to social diffusion of ESG and substantial improvement in ESG performance but also to the business performance of participating companies.
The purpose of RE:GEN ALLIANCE is to support the growth and coexistence of member companies as RE:GEN being a guaranteed brand so that ESG can be the basis for future consumption life by introducing more categories of products and solutions of each company that reflect its growth, future, and ESG values as options for end users.
Specifically, Hyosung invests and strives as a practical umbrella for the early settlement of ALLIANCE and expansion of the consumer base by enhancing the reliability, sincerity, and envy of RE:GEN, and RE:GEN ALLIANCE participants play the role in expanding more and wider practical entities and spreading social participation in values leading to mutual coperation and ESG substantial provision.

As of 2023, we have signed ALLIANCE contracts with around 15 small and medium-sized enterprises that produce excellent eco-friendly products, such as Harlie K and 119Reo. We plan to recruit more members for the ALLIANCE. The RE:GEN ALLIANCE will work to spread more ESG values based on the value of “accompanying every generation,” and the goal is to expand the ESG ecosystem to all social levels.

Hyosung is fully aware of the importance of sustaining the Earth's ecosystem more than any other companies do. We have been carrying out increasingly targeted and intensive biodiversity and ecosystem restoration and preservation programs, such as “sea forests,” since 2022. It starts with the realization that as human activities increase, biodiversity in any form might be jeopardized, posing a threat to the entire human race.
